Nomadic Life

Nomads are members of a community who don’t have a fixed home. They move from place to place in search of food, finding pasture for livestock. Most of the nomadic groups follow the same seasonal pattern of movement. Nomads mostly live in tents or their portable shelters. Most nomads usually move in the same region and they don’t travel very far to a different region but nomadic life is getting interesting to the people who had never tried this way of living, but the people who live this life are not dissatisfied but they have to face a lot of challenges. Nomads generally move with their homes, their way of living is very difficult yet very exciting where a person doesn’t have any certainty about the next second of their life.

There are people called digital nomads who move out of their homes by their choice and work as bloggers, reporters and many more. These people are not like tribal nomads. Digital nomads have access to the internet through which they can look at the world differently whereas tribal nomads have limited resources through which they can only earn their living and fulfill their basic needs.

Being a nomad is not easy because one has to keep traveling all the time which everyone cannot do. It may seem very exciting to look at their lives but the way they live with minimal resources is very difficult. They have to sacrifice a lot of emotions, attachments, and feelings when they start practicing this life. Especially for digital nomads who have started practicing this life after a certain age, till the time they were used to the certainty with a lot of comforts.

The meaning of word nomad change for a person to person a photographer travels throughout the world with a single camera for him capturing every moment of his journey is his/her life. When I see a person with that single object various questions arise how this person will survive with that single object but for the photographer, the camera is a need for his/her existence.

The are various tribal nomads in India who travel to different places to fulfill their basic requirements. They don’t leave any mark behind when they move from one place to another. They don’t occupy any land for a long time, as they keep moving in every few days. Nomads don’t stay in the same place for more than a year. I recently came to know about the Changpa tribe and their lifestyle. They raise goats and sheep to earn a living for them, they take pashmina from their body and sell in the local market. They also weave shawl, jackets and other winter wear that they sell in the local market. They worship these animals because they think they are the way through which they can connect to God and they are the ones from whom they earn their living.

Whether it is tribal nomad or digital nomad they only move with minimal resources, they can live anywhere, they don’t have various requirements, can adjust in any situation.
